Attribution

Kcalbase has two layers. The open layer is built from Open Food Facts (Open Database License 1.0) and the UK Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset, CoFID 2021 (Open Government Licence 3.0). Those licences require attribution wherever the data is shown, and we pass that duty on to you in the response itself.

Every food carries:

"attribution": { "required": true, "text": "Data from Open Food Facts, licensed under ODbL 1.0, via Kcalbase", "url": "https://openfoodfacts.org" }

When required is true, show text (linking to url) on any screen that displays values from that row: a caption under the nutrition panel is enough. When required is false (Kcalbase core rows, later USDA rows) you may show it or not.

Images are referenced by URL and stay under their own licence (images.front.licence, usually CC BY-SA 3.0 from Open Food Facts contributors); show images.front.attribution next to an image you display.

The full open layer is published nightly as an ODbL dump at the URL in the changelog, which is what allows the API to carry its own terms.
